Quick answer

A SaaS launch video needs a clear message, a script, the real product screens, a storyboard, sound, review time and a plan for where it will run. Start at least three to four weeks before launch, and lock the product screens before animation starts.

A launch has a hard date, and video is often the last thing finished. This checklist keeps it from becoming a rush.

Before production

  • One message. Write one sentence about what is new and who it is for.
  • Final screens. Animation built on a design that changes later has to be redone. Freeze the interface, or tell your editor what may still change.
  • Script and length. For a launch, 45 to 90 seconds is a comfortable range. Plan shorter cut-downs for social.
  • Assets. Logo files, brand colors, fonts, screen recordings or Figma files, and any customer quotes you have permission to use.

During production

  • Approve the script, then the storyboard, then style frames, before full animation. See the production process.
  • Give feedback in one consolidated list from one decision-maker.
  • Review with the sound on and off, and on a phone.

Before publishing

  • Captions or subtitles in place
  • Correct file sizes for each channel, see video aspect ratios
  • A strong first frame and a clear title
  • Embed on the launch page, and add the video to your site for search

After launch

Check watch time and where viewers drop off, then use what you learn in the next video.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Animating screens that are still changing
  • Waiting until the week before launch to brief an editor
  • Forgetting captions and the thumbnail

Frequently asked questions

How early should I start a launch video?

About three to four weeks before launch is a comfortable plan for a 60 to 90 second video. Shorter edits can move faster.

What if the product changes after animation starts?

Tell your editor early. Layered design files make small changes easier, but big changes can mean rework.

Do I need a script?

Yes. A script approved before design saves the most time. See SaaS explainer video script template.

Can you make launch videos?

Yes. See SaaS explainer videos.
