Quick answer

Two to three rounds of revisions is common for a single video, but agree on the number in writing. Big changes after approval, like a new script, are usually a separate quote.

Revisions are changes to a video after the first draft. The right number depends on the project, so agree on it before you start.

What counts as a revision?

A revision round is one batch of feedback on one version. For example, "change the music, shorten scene 3, fix the color of the logo" is a single round.

What usually isn't a revision

  • Changing the script after it was approved
  • Switching the visual style after style frames were approved
  • Adding new scenes or a new version for a different platform

These are changes in scope, and they are normally quoted separately.

How many rounds are typical?

Many projects include two or three rounds. Short social videos may need fewer. Longer or more complex videos may need more.

How to use revisions well

  1. Collect all feedback from everyone on your team first.
  2. Resolve disagreements before sending the notes.
  3. Be specific: "at 0:14 the text is too small" beats "fix the text."
  4. Say what the video should achieve, not only what to change.

Why approvals at each stage help

For animation, approving the script, storyboard and style frames before animation means fewer expensive changes later. See the production process.

If you need more rounds

Ask for them upfront. Some projects, like campaigns with many stakeholders, are worth planning more rounds into the price. Related: how to give video feedback.

A fair way to handle extra rounds

Ask the editor to price extra rounds up front. Some charge per round, some per hour. Knowing it early removes awkward conversations later.

How to avoid needing extra rounds

  • Approve the script and style before animation
  • Put one person in charge of feedback
  • Send notes with timestamps
  • State the goal behind each change

Frequently asked questions

Are small tweaks counted as revisions?

Usually small fixes, like a typo or a color adjustment, are handled quickly. Agree on how the editor treats them.

What if I'm not happy with the first draft?

Explain what isn't working and what you want to see. Good editors can often fix it in one round if the direction is clear.

Can I get unlimited revisions?

Some projects offer them, usually with a time limit. Be wary of "unlimited" with no end date.

How many do you include?

I agree on the number of rounds in the quote, so you know before we start. Ask for a quote.
