Quick answer

Pick moments that make sense on their own, add a hook and captions, reframe for vertical and end with a clear point. Quality of selection matters more than quantity.

A long recording can supply weeks of short content, if you choose well.

1. Find the moments

Look for segments that:

  • Make one clear point
  • Work without the surrounding context
  • Include a story, a surprise or a strong opinion

Most good clips run from about 20 seconds to a couple of minutes.

2. Write a hook

Start with the most interesting line, even if it came later in the conversation. Add it as on-screen text.

3. Reframe for vertical

Crop a 16:9 recording to 9:16 and keep the speaker centered. For two speakers, cut between them or use a split layout.

4. Clean the edit

  • Remove pauses and filler words
  • Add jump cuts or zooms for rhythm
  • Balance audio

5. Add captions

Captions are essential. See captions for short-form video.

6. Finish with a point

End on the conclusion, or a short call to action.

7. Make a series

Use a consistent look, with the same fonts, colors and layout, so the clips feel like a set.

Quality over quantity

Ten strong clips beat thirty weak ones.

Four to eight strong clips from one hour is a realistic goal.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Cutting a clip mid-thought
  • Leaving out context that the viewer needs

  • Posting everything on the same day

Frequently asked questions

Should I include a link to the full video?

Yes, in the caption or a pinned comment, where the platform allows it.

What if the audio quality is poor?

Clean it up in editing. If it's too poor, subtitle carefully and choose clips where speech is clear.

How many clips should I post per week?

Consistency matters more than volume. Choose a pace you can keep.

Do you do this?

Yes. Send me the recording and your goals.
